ABOUT CONFINED SPACE

Many workplaces contain areas that are considered "confined spaces" because while they are not necessarily designed for people, they are large enough for workers to enter and perform certain jobs. A confined space also has limited or restricted means for entry or exit and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Confined spaces include, but are not limited to, tanks, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, pits, manholes, tunnels, equipment housings, ductwork, pipelines, etc. At Complete Training Solutions we cover all the courses in real-world training environments that may be required to start work in the industry.

Confined Spaces training courses help workers to prepare for the challenges of carrying out certain duties in locations where there is little workspace or where space is not normally designed to be entered by a person.

There are many workplaces where this can be the case, including ducts, pipelines, tunnels, storage bins, hoppers, silos, tanks, manholes, pits and vaults – to name but a few.

Working in such places raises several safety concerns, including safe entry and exit from the area, safe working procedures including issues like sufficient ventilation and oxygen supply, and contingency planning for a rapid exit, rescue and recovery during an emergency or if the individual becomes trapped.

Adequate training in confined spaces helps to anticipate such emergencies and the modules offered by Complete Training Solutions are designed to ensure individuals are ready to start work in affected industries without requiring on-the-job training to cover the basics.

The City & Guilds Confined Spaces training courses are mandatory for some jobs working in and around confined spaces – we would also recommend such candidates obtain their CSCS Green Card in order to work on UK building sites.

City & Guilds Confined Spaces Training Courses

City & Guilds Confined Spaces training courses are designated by module numbers beginning with 6150 and can include dry-land and in-water training.

We offer the following modules:

  • Level 2 Confined Space Low Risk (6150-51) -1 day
  • Level 2 Confined Space Medium Risk (6150-52) -2 days
  • Level 2 Confined Space High Risk (6150-53) -3 days
  • Level 3 Confined Space High Risk (6150-54) -3 days

We also offer training for confined spaces including water, so if you need or want wet training included as part of the module, please book an appropriate date or contact us if you’re not sure which dates are suitable.

It is normal to renew these qualifications at least once every three years, so if you want to book a place as a refresher of a qualification you have already achieved in the past, we can accommodate that too.

All delegates must provide valid photographic ID and suitable work clothing including strong, safe footwear – check the individual pages for each module for more details.

Overalls can be provided on the day, along with required course materials, and delegates must be prepared to undertake practical assessments in our real-world confined space unit.

Successful candidates will receive the appropriate City & Guilds certificate usually within six weeks of completing the course.
