Complete Training Solutions launch Mental Health First Aid course

Leading health and safety training provider, Complete Training Solutions (CTS), has announced the launch of their Mental Health First Aid training course.

The two-day course, which was developed by Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA), gives participants an in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that affect wellbeing. The course equips learners with the practical skills needed to spot the triggers and signs of a range of mental health issues. Through the comprehensive course, individuals will gain the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress using the Mental Health First Aid action plan.

During April and May, the course will be facilitated by mental health charity, State of Mind Sport. The charity was founded in 2010 following the tragic suicide of rugby player, Terry NewtonDanny Sculthorpe and Phil Veivers from the charity will be the lead instructors on the course and are thrilled to be a part of the launch. Danny said;

‘’We are delighted to be a part of the Mental Health First Aid course at Complete Training Solutions. Both myself and Phil have experienced mental health issues first-hand and understand just how damaging they can be to everything from your work life to your personal life. As men we often put a mask on and try to hide our feelings, but we want to change that stigma and encourage people to talk about their issues more openly.’’

Complete Training Solutions COO, Danielle Kershaw is a mental health advocate and is delighted the new course will help support delegates across the construction and renewables sectors. Speaking on the course launch, Danielle said;

Currently, the construction industry ranks in the top 5 industries where workers are more likely to commit suicide, a shocking statistic that needs tackling. The stigma around men’s mental health is something we are committed to addressing at Complete Training Solutions, and this course will help us take the first steps to encourage the industry to get talking.

We are calling on employers to invest in the course to help protect their workers mental health in the long term. Through working together, we can begin to tackle the statistics that surround mental health in the construction and renewables sectors.’’

In England, around 1 in 8 men suffer from a common mental health illness, including, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder [1]. Men are also less likely to access psychological therapies, with only 38% of NHS referrals accounting for men [2]. Currently, in the construction industry, 1 in 5 workers suffer from mental health issues.

All delegates who complete the course will receive a recognised qualification and certificate in Mental Health First Aid. Alongside their qualification, delegates will receive a wealth of resources including, a Mental Health First Aid manual, an action plan reference card, and a workbook with toolkits to help support their mental health.

Complete Training Solutions are a leading health and safety training provider serving the construction and renewables sectors. Their state-of-the-art training centre is in the heart of Liverpool city centre and boasts facilities that replicate real-world scenarios for delegates.
