The GWO Sea Survival Training course helps individuals to achieve a safety certification accredited by the Global Wind Organisation. This course provides delegates with an awareness of the theoretical and practical elements of sea survival. The GWO Sea Survival accreditation is essential for individuals who want to work in the offshore wind industry.

Sea Survival

The GWO Sea Survival course focuses on the key practical as well as theory elements of surviving in all sea conditions. The aim is to educate delegates in legislation, theory and rescue techniques within the renewable energy industry.

The aim of this GWO Sea Survival course is to deliver the theoretical and practical training required to act safely and take the correct preventive actions in all aspects of offshore operations in an offshore wind energy environment.

This GWO Sea Survival Module shall ensure that:
  • Survival at sea
  • Life saving appliances
  • National and international legislation
  • Man overboard techniques
  • Life rafts
  • Hypothermia
  • Transfer of personnel and their luggage to wind turbine generators and vessels

Assessments for the GWO Sea Survival Training Course consists of practical and written elements. Delegates will be faced with practical scenarios and will be asked to complete written multiple-choice assessments.

Individuals who complete the GWO Sea Survival Training Course can work safely at sea. It is important to remember that to work offshore, participants must complete the GWO Basic Safety Training Course. Sea Survival is a module within the BST course.  This course is mandatory for number of offshore jobs or maritime engineering positions on wind turbines.

Looking to advance your safety knowledge within the offshore renewable energy industry? We advise sitting the IOSH Managing Safely. If you want a career in offshore rope access, then you should complete your IRATA Rope Access Level 1 Certificate.

Upon successfully completing the GWO Sea Survival course, the certificate will be valid for another 2 years. You can do your Refresher Course with us too!

  1. Swimwear and a towel.
  2. Clothing you don’t mind getting wet when worn beneath a survival suit. You can also bring your own survival suit if you wish.
  3. Footwear you don’t mind getting wet.
