GWO Blended Basic Technical Training (BTT)

Course Information

The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) standard has been developed in response to the demand for recognisable Basic Technical Training in the industry and was prepared in co-operation between the members of GWO to ensure accredited training for installation, servicing and maintenance of wind turbine generators and wind power plants.

Upon completion of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Technical Training (BTT), participants will possess an awareness of the hazards encountered when working on hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems, and how to control and mitigate these hazards, preparing technicians for working both on and offshore in the wind power industry. The members of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) recognise trained persons as being able to safely perform basic hydraulic, mechanical and electrical tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician.

This course, along with the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST), grants access into a wind industry career.

GWO blended Basic Technical Training (BTT)

The Blended Basic Technical Training (BTT) standard delivers GWO accredited training for installation, servicing and maintenance of wind turbine generators and wind power plants.

The GWO Blended Basic Technical Training (BTT) standard has been developed in response to the demand for recognisable Basic Technical Training in the industry and was prepared in co-operation between the members of GWO to ensure accredited training for installation, servicing and maintenance of wind turbine generators and wind power plants.

Upon completion of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Technical Training (BTT), participants will possess an awareness of the hazards encountered when working on hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and installation systems, and how to control and mitigate these hazards, preparing technicians for working both on and offshore in the wind power industry. The members of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) recognise trained persons as being able to safely perform basic hydraulic, mechanical and electrical tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician.

The Basic Technical Training modules are targeted at candidates who have no previous experience of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems, but may also be used to upskill candidates who have some knowledge but not of its application in wind turbines.

We offer online adaptive  learning for GWO BTT theory modules, which affords delegates the opportunity to undertake theory training prior to attending with us in the centre. Our online ‘Blended’ products reduces your training from 4 days to 3 days, which provides an opportunity to save on the cost of training, travel and accommodation.

 

The aim of this GWO BTT Standard Mechanical Module is to give the participants the knowledge and skills to carry out basic tasks (supervised by an experienced technician).
The module is designed so wind turbine technicians can:

  • Explain the main components, mechanical systems and the basic operation of wind turbines.
  • Explain risks and hazards associated with mechanics.
  • Understand the principles of bolted and welded connections and their inspection.
  • Demonstrate practical skills to use manual tightening and measuring tools.
  • Demonstrate the correct use of hydraulic torque and tensioning tools.
  • Explain the principles of a gearbox.
  • Explain the function of the brake systems and demonstrate how to inspect them.
  • Yaw system and explain how to inspect it.
  • Cooling system and demonstrate how to inspect it.
  • Explain the function of the lubrication system and demonstrate how to inspect it.

The aim of this GWO BTT Standard Electical Module is to give the participants the knowledge and skills to carry out basic tasks (supervised by an experienced technician).
The module is designed so wind turbine technicians can:‍

  • Explain the basics of electricity.
  • Risks and hazards associated with electrical work.
  • Explain the function and symbol of electrical components.
  • Function of different types of sensors.
  • Explain and interpret a simple electrical diagram and demonstrate how to assembly it on a circuit.
  • Demonstrate how to make correct and safe measurements.

The aim of this GWO BTT Standard Hydraulic Module is to give the participants the knowledge and skills to carry out basic tasks (supervised by an experienced technician).

The module is designed so wind turbine technicians can:

  • Basics of hydraulics
  • Explain risks and hazards associated with hydraulic work
  • Different types of pumps and demonstrate how to check start/stop pressure of a pump
  • Explain the function of different types of actuators.
  • Function of different types of valves.
  • Understand accumulators and demonstrate how to check and pre-charge them.
  • Explain the function of different types of sensors.
  • Identify the components which transfer the oil.
  • Describe the handling of oil procedures.
  • Identify and find different components on a hydraulic diagram.
  • Demonstrate how to measure the hydraulic pressure accurately.
