GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART)
Course Information
The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) uses the Advanced Rescue Training (ART) standard. Therefore, high-risk rescue operations are the main component of the ART Standard. This training style ensures a more efficient rescue operation from a wind turbine. Additionally, GWO Advanced Rescue Training elevates rescuer self-reliance. Executing the successful transport of a colleague who cannot self-evacuate, for instance, is an essential aspect of this training course.

GWO Advanced Rescue Training
Advanced Rescue Training (ART) standard teaches safety procedures for high-risk rescue operations.
The GWO Advanced Rescue Training is suitable for individuals who will be working in the wind industry. Individuals required to perform advanced rescue operations will certainly benefit from this course. The modules will enable delegates to perform entry-type injured person rescue operations, in a WTG, using industry-standard rescue equipment, rescue methods, and techniques, exceeding those of GWO Working at Height.
The Advanced Rescue Training Standard includes 4 distinct modules:
- Nacelle, Tower & Basement Rescue (Valid for 2 years)
- Hub, Spinner & Inside Blade Rescue (Valid for 2 years)
- Single Rescuer – Hub, Spinner & Inside Blade (No expiry)
- Single Rescuer – Nacelle, Tower, Basement (No expiry)
Firstly, the modules teach entry-type casualty rescue operations in a turbine using industry-standard rescue equipment. Then rescue methods and techniques are taught, which exceed those of GWO Working at Heights. Finally, the standard consists of two main modules and a single rescuer version of each.
All individuals participating in Advanced Rescue Training shall be medically fit and capable of fully participating. Valid GWO BST module Working at Heights, GWO First Aid and GWO Manual Handling certificates are prerequisites for participation.Additionally, delegates are to create personal Delegate profiles in WINDA. For delegates, a WINDA ID is necessary prior to completing the ART training.
In order to complete a GWO ART (Advanced Rescue Training) combined course, delegates must hold:
- Valid and in-date GWO Working at Height, GWO First Aid and GWO Manual Handling certificates
The certificate will be valid for another 2 years. You can do your Refresher Course with us too!
Single Rescuer – Hub, Spinner & Inside Blade
The aim of this module is to enable the course participants to perform single rescuer advanced rescue operations, in a WTG hub, spinner and inside the blade by using industry standard rescue equipment, methods and techniques, exceeding those of GWO Working at height.
Single Rescuer – Nacelle, Tower, Basement
The aim of this module is to enable the course participants to perform single rescuer advanced rescue operations, in a WTG nacelle, tower and basement, by using industry standard rescue equipment, methods and techniques, exceeding those of GWO Working at height.
Nacelle, Tower & Basement Rescue
The aim of this module is to enable the course participant to perform injured person rescue operations in a WTG nacelle, tower and basement, by using industry standard rescue equipment, methods and techniques, exceeding those of GWO work at height.
Hub, Spinner & Inside Blade Rescue
The aim of this module is to enable the course participants to perform rescue operations, in a WTG hub, spinner and inside the blade by using industry standard rescue equipment, methods and techniques, exceeding those of GWO Working at Height.
